My Dorm & Cheonan City 천안시

The international students here are intermingled within Korean students. We all live in the dorms named the Global Village. In a suite which has 6 bedrooms (2 students per room) only 2 international students are there. My roomie will be a Korean student, since we come early to do orientation she is not here yet. Most of the Korean students do not arrive till the weekend before school starts. So my suite is very very empty. I am the only person here right now. I think the other international student that should be in my dorm will be arriving today...I hope! But for now it's great cause I don't have to share the washroom yet, I can only imagine the chaos to come.

This is the washroom. This sink area is open there is no door, you just walk into it. To the left is the washroom and to the right is the showers. Of course these areas have doors. So even though people are going to the washroom or showering we can open use this mirror and sink.

This is my front door! To the left is the cupboards to put your shoes and to the right is a ceiling to floor mirror so you can check yourself out before heading out.

The view from the door way, my room is the last one on the left right at the end there.

The common area with a nice big coach and a TV. Hopefully my Korea will improve so I can actually watch tv.

And here is my room, Building D Suite 501 Room # 3 =D Yes it looks messy, I haven't unpacked everything yet. There are so many cupboards for me to store things it's great! However, taking all my stuff out and putting them in there nicely...

As my suite name suggests I am up on the 5th floor so here is the view from my window. The weather was so nice but SO cold at 6AM in the morning when I went for a walk, BUT it warmed up to a nice temperature at 11am when I went out with other new and returning students.

Ok so all the preparation and equipping the students before coming to Soon Chun Hyang was great. However, after I got here they dropped me off at my dorm and that was it. I had NO idea what I was suppose to do the next morning. I didn't know where to get food, or if I should be leaving my dorm in case someone comes to inform me about the next few days...

But it turns out before the orientation you can basically do whatever you want. So I was so happy when Jackie and Asiem (I am pretty sure I spelt her name so wrong, she's from Kazakhstan! One of the two students I met form there) came knocking on my door asking me to join them and others to head out to Cheonan (천안) a nearby city where more things were happening. There was ten of us 2 from Kazakhstan, 2 from San Diego, 1 from Santa Clara, 1 from Arkansas, 1 from Florida, 1 from Mexico, I forgot where Manny is from but somewhere in the US and me.

We went to a department store to eat at their wonderful food court! Department store food courts are so nice and inexpensive. My lunch was 4500 won which equals 4.50 Canadian. We went to Shinesegae (신세계). Korean food courts there are several "restaurants", but you order all the food in this centralized counter with all the menus. You then get a number and you grab the food from the individual restaurant that you ordered from.

Since it was getting hot we all got Mini Melts! The lady at the stand was so nice and seemed so happy when we all went to order from her. We ate on this balcony, it was so nice there are chairs and tables set up for us to enjoy our ice cream. We also took a group picture but I do not have a copy of that at the moment. I'm sure it'll go on facebook or will be emailed soon.

Lastly before heading to E-Mart (이마트) we went walking the shopping district in Cheonan ( 천안). I want to buy so much, but it's the first day out and we were all definitely holding back. Except the socks! Everybody bought 50 cent socks with funny characters on them it was great.

  5. Hello Norul

Life here is fine =) It's a small town but other than that it's really convenient to get to the bigger cities around us for more entertainment, food and etc. I've spent one semester here and I'm having a blast!
